If you see the lavishness, the bounties and the extravaganza of the Hill Palace Museum you shall feel the delight of the creator in your heart. The Hill Palace Museum at Thripunithura, at Kochi is now a colossal Archeological Museum at Kerala. It is also the first Heritage Museum at Kerala, and consists of 52 acres of porch land.

Originally inhabited by the Royal Family of Kochi, the Hill Palace Museum consists of 49 well designed edifices; they are created in an ethnic manner, and reflect the heritage of India. The adjacent ponds, temples, and gardens along with stylish adjuncts indicate the harmonious blend of Indian and Western Architecture.

in 1980 the Department of Archeology shouldered the responsibility of management of the Hill Palace Museum. It was later converted into a museum due to the exquisite assets with which the Hill Palace Museum is impregnated with. The paintings, inscriptions, carvings, frescoes, sculpture, stone made structure along with few of the manuscripts constitute 14 items that are on display at the Hill Palace Museum.

Most of the displayed items have been brought from the Travancore Royal House. On display in the full-fledged Ethno-archaeological museum are oil-paintings, murals, sculptures in stone and manuscripts, inscriptions, coins, belongings of the Kochi royal family and royal furniture including the simhasana (throne).

Also exhibited are over 200 antique pieces of pottery and ceramic vases from Japan and China, Kudakkallu (tomb stone), Thoppikkallu (hood stone), menhirs, granite, laterite memorials, rock cut weapons from the stone ages, wooden temple models, plaster cast models of objects from Mohanjodaro and Harappa of the Indus Valley Civilisation.

The museum also houses a gallery of contemporary art.
