The most outstanding Indian personality among the Extremists, Balgangadhar Tilak later came to be known as `Lokmanya Tilak` played a leading part in popularising the culture of patriotism. He started two newspapers `The Maratha" in English and "the Kesari" in Marathi. He was the first congress leader to suffer several terms of imprisonment. He organised the "Ganapati festival" and the `Shivaji festival"
Mahadev Govind Ranade was a great social reformer and a distinguished Indian Personality. He was one of the founding father and leading lights of Prarthana Samaj. He worked as the member of the Bombay Legislative Council, Member of the Finance Committee at the centre and as the Judge of Bombay High Court. He with some of his followers sponsored the Deccan Education Society for starting a college to promote western education. Mahadev Ranade was born in 1842 at Niphad in Nashik, Maharashtra. He started his career as a professor in the Elphinstone College at Bombay and was later appointed member of the Bombay Legislative Council in 1885.
Savitribai Phule is one of the famous indian personality among women. Savitribai Phule was born in a well-to-do farmer`s family on 3rd January 1831 at Naigaum of Satara district in Maharashtra. She was married to Jyotiba Phule at the age of nine. She was encouraged by her husband to get educated.In 1852 Jyotiba and Savitribai were felicitated and presented with a shawl each by the government for their commendable efforts in Yishrambag Wada.
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam Maraikkayar born October 15, 1931, Tamil Nadu, India, usually referred to as Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is the former President of India. A great Indian personality, Dr Kalam is remebered in India as the Misile Man. he is a notable scientist and engineer, and is considered a leading progressive, mentor, innovator and visionary in India.He made a significant contribution as Project Director to develop India`s first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle which successfully placed the Rohini space satellite into near earth orbit in July 1980.
